Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is said to be a target for new Liverpool boss Arne Slot
The latest transfer rumours that suggested Liverpool was interested in Aston Villa attacker Ollie Watkins have not concerned Gabby Agbonlahor.
According to The Sun, before his debut season at Anfield, new Liverpool boss Arne Slot wants the 28-year-old to take Darwin Nunez’s spot. But Villa star Agbonlahor is adamant that Watkins wouldn’t even be sold by his former team for £100 million this summer.
Watkins had a tremendous season for Villa last year, finishing with 13 assists and 19 goals in the Premier League—enough to earn him the title of playmaker of the year. His goals were a major factor in Villa’s triumphant season, as Unai Emery’s team placed fourth and qualified for the Champions League.
In response to a question regarding Liverpool’s purported interest in Watkins, Agbonlahor stated on talkSPORT, “Not worried one bit.” “Because of how brilliantly he performed, you will hear these rumours.
“He is known as ‘Mr Reliable,’ and he has an incredible injury history. He sustains no injuries. Whatever it takes, he ventures outside. 19 goals in the Premier League the previous season… amazing. No fines. He’s become so clinical in his finishing.
He inked a five-year contract that runs through October 2028. Aston Villa needs to liquidate. However, selling shares is preferable to giving Watkins to anyone.
“He will set you back £100 million, and I doubt they would sell him for that amount. Aston Villa is currently under construction. Unai Emery recently agreed to a five-year deal.”
