After their attempt to replace Sergio Busquets with Oriol Romeu this season failed, Barcelona is searching for a midfield player this summer. Although some have been connected to the Blaugrana, Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder for Manchester City, has chosen to make himself known.
In January, Phillips left Manchester City to go on loan to West Ham, but the move did not work out, and he was once again benched. In January, Barcelona expressed interest in the 28-year-old, but ultimately determined that his salary precluded them from making a loan agreement.
This summer, Phillips could be interested in a move to another Premier League team; City wants to sell him for about €30 million. However, according to Sport, Phillips has made himself available to Barcelona. Should they fail to find a buyer, as was the case with Joao Cancelo, the Catalan powerhouses might decide to pursue him.
Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich is Barcelona’s primary choice for the position, although he appears to be a difficult financial choice. They have also reached an agreement with Guido Rodriguez, but they must move quickly to finalise the agreement. Pepelu of Valencia is another player who has drawn their attention. Since Phillips is probably the least expensive choice among the group, a deal might be possible there.
