Arsenal have challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title for two seasons.
The Gunners have come in second to Pep Guardiola’s squad on both occasions.
Even though Man City’s form and performances improved following the 2022–2023 season, Mikel Arteta was unable to challenge the team’s domination in the country.
Arsenal has been linked with many moves this summer in an attempt to get closer to the Premier League champions.
It is anticipated that the Gunners will bring in a new full-back, midfielder, and striker.
Benjamin Sesko, an attacker for RB Leipzig, has reportedly approved of a transfer to the Emirates Stadium, according to the Daily Mirror.
Journalist Craig Hope, though, believes that the North London team ought to aim for a transfer for Ollie Watkins, the striker for Aston Villa.
Speaking on Wednesday night’s Back Pages podcast on Sky Sports, Hope said that if the Gunners buy Watkins, they will be able to catch up to Man City.
He declared:
What are they missing? This talks to the previous discussion we’ve just had about a striker, a central striker, and if Arsenal did have one of those this season. They only finished two points behind Manchester City. I think they scored five goals less than Manchester City.”
“If they’d had that striker, that goalscorer, those extra five goals might just have been the difference between finishing second and finishing first. So, while we see Liverpool potentially interested in Ollie Watkins, what price is Arsenal entering the race at as well, I know he’d cost a lot of money but you look at that, that is the one position they’re missing.”
Kai Havertz, Eddie Nketiah, and Gabriel Jesus have all been employed by Arteta as strikers.
The consensus is that the team needs a new striker to reach its full potential, even though the German has been the greatest player out of the three.
This summer, Arsenal needs a new striker. The team made it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League but lost to Bayern Munich. Though Man City had different ideas, they were very almost the Premier League champions.
They would have a fully-stocked roster if they can secure a striker this summer.
They would be gaining one of the best forwards in England right now if they could sign Watkins from Villa. He scored 19 goals and contributed 13 assists the previous season.
