Borussia Dortmund is hoping to win their first Champions League trophy in 27 years by defeating European powerhouse Real Madrid, and Edin Terzic has called on them to be “brave.”
When Terzic was fourteen years old, he watched Dortmund defeat Juventus in 1997. He also worked in the backroom during Dortmund’s 2013 title loss to Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium.
As a manager, he now has the incredible chance to witness the Black and Yellow win their second European championship.
“We don’t care, but [Madrid] will be the favorites,” Terzic stated at the news conference on Friday.
“We weren’t the favorites in the quarterfinal or semifinal matchups against Paris Saint-Germain or Atletico Madrid either. We will have a chance if we are courageous.
When Julian Brandt talked about his thoughts for the matchup versus Los Blancos, he radiated confidence.
The midfield player clarified, “[Madrid] is the ultimate opponent in the Champions League with their history.” “But we have courage because of our Champions League season. All of us have unwavering faith. We could as well have stayed home if things had turned out any differently.
“We didn’t play at our best when we gave up goals in September, but we’ve changed as a team and proved we’re prepared to fight for the trophy.
“We lead the competition in clean sheet totals as a squad. The opposition must be kept as far away from the goal as feasible.”
Dortmund drew at home with AC Milan and fell 2-0 to PSG in their first two games.
Terzic’s team then defeated Newcastle twice in a row in the group stages, triumphed 5-4 overall in the quarterfinals, and exacted revenge on PSG by winning 1-0 twice in the semifinals.
