Tyson Fury was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia with a rematch now confirmed for later this year
Before his fight against Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, Tyson Fury sent a message to his promoter Frank Warren following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk. On a special 5v5 card, two heavyweight bouts between Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic and a battle between Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang will pit five of Warren’s athletes against five of Hearn’s.
“Tyson Fury here, very important message, it is that important I’ve done it from my bedroom,” Fury wrote in a post to his social media accounts. Do the business, Frank, Queensbury, and all the boys in our team. Take out Matchroom and Eddie Hearn. Come on, Frank Warren and Queensbury, get up there. Good luck and best wishes to all the fighters.
It was the first time Fury has spoken in public in the previous two weeks following his first loss of his storied career due to his defeat by Usyk.
almost though Usyk prevailed by split decision, many believed that the Ukrainian easily defeated “The Gypsy King,” almost nearly bringing him out in the ninth round as Fury somehow managed to stay upright while sustaining some very hard blows.
Fury’s loss against Usyk had a rematch clause, which has already been activated. The fight is scheduled for December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Even though Usyk defeated Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, it appears that just the WBO, WBA, and WBC titles will be at stake in Saudi Arabia if Usyk loses the IBF title eventually.
After both fighters sustained facial injuries in their May 18 fight, they will have six months to train for their rematch.
Even though Fury was on the verge of losing the bout, he thought he had done enough to prevail that evening. “I think I won that fight,” he declared. And I think I won most of the rounds, but I think he won a couple.
“I think we both did the best we could when we fought. You know, his nation is engaged in a war. People are supporting the warring nation. Without a doubt, I won the battle in my perspective.”
