The transfer of Luton midfielder Ross Barkley to Premier League team Aston Villa is anticipated to happen early in the upcoming month, as reported by Spanish journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 30-year-old had an incredible first season at Kenilworth Road, playing in 32 games in the top division and contributing four assists in addition to five goals. This was sufficient to earn him the titles of Player of the Season, Junior Supporters’ Player, and Signing of the Season at the recent Luton Town Supporters’ Trust presentation evening.
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased a 27.7% stake in the Manchester United, Barkley has been linked to Villa Park almost since the end of the season. The Hatters were unable to secure the safety at the top level of English football that they required to give themselves any realistic chance of keeping Barkley.
Ross Barkley would be returning to the team he played for 24 games and scored three goals while on loan from Chelsea during the second half of the 2017–18 season. Romano provided an update on the transaction on Twitter, writing, “EXCL: Aston Villa have reached verbal agreement with Luton Town to sign Ross Barkley.” Recognise that it will cost about £5 million. The player’s formal signing and the necessary medical testing are the last steps; the player’s agreement is anticipated at the start of July. We’re off, soon.”
Barkley has obviously become close to Luton since moving to Bedfordshire, but in an interview with Sky Sports back in April, he stated that after coming fourth last season, a transfer to a team that plays Champions League games the next season would undoubtedly be too good to refuse. “I want to play in the Premier League,” he declared. I want to perform once more in Europe. I think I might still be in my prime for the next three years. I think I’m capable of competing with Man City’s and Arsenal’s best players. I believe that this season, my standards have remained constant.
