After joining Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of last year, Cole Palmer was fantastic.
With the Blues, he made 33 Premier League appearances, scoring 22 goals and setting up another 11.
The attacker demonstrated his exceptional performance this season by contributing more goals than any other player.
While on England duty last week, Kieran Trippier, a defender for Newcastle United, trained with Palmer for the first time and was taken aback by the 22-year-old’s skill.
Cole Palmer on winning the title of Premier League Young Player of the Year
Palmer was naturally overjoyed to get the title of Young Player of the Season in the Premier League.
After collecting the prize, he immediately called his parents to express his happiness with them.
The Englishman expressed his feelings about it to Chelsea’s official website, saying, “Winning such a prestigious award was an amazing feeling.” It has been won by many outstanding young players, so it felt incredibly fantastic to win it myself.
“I called my parents right away. They were humming. Evidently from the previous season, coming here was a significant decision for my family and myself as well, and happily it has paid off.
Is Cole Palmer deserving of another Premier League Player of the Season award?
Phil Foden, Palmer’s former City colleague, won Premier League Player of the Season.
But you could have just as well argued for Palmer, who was a strong candidate for the award as well.
Compared to the 24-year-old playing for a lower-tier squad, he had more assists and more goals.
Palmer could have easily defeated Foden to win the crown if Chelsea had been in the running for the championship this year. Palmer was helping Chelsea scrape through for sixth place, but Foden was clearly getting more of the limelight and playing in far more important games.
Palmer had a stronger season and maybe should have won Player of the Season if you can get beyond that. Of course, Foden is still deserving of the victory, though.
