When he joins the team, Lewis Hamilton claims he has no plans to pressure Ferrari to change from their recognizable crimson red colors to a black F1 livery.
In 2025, the seven-time world champion will make a dramatic switch to Ferrari as a driver alongside Charles Leclerc, leaving Mercedes at the end of the current season.
Mercedes, who have been racing in silver since 1954, made headlines in 2020 when they announced a new anti-racism campaign and changed to a black livery.
Before switching back to silver for the 2022 season, they wore the livery for 2020 and 2021. Mercedes went back to black in 2023 in an effort to reduce weight, but its 2024 rival is a hybrid of the two colors.
John Elkann, the president of Ferrari, was asked if Hamilton would like to see a black F1 livery before the Canadian Grand Prix.
The 39-year-old British person replied, “I probably won’t be pushing for that too early on, but no. I haven’t driven a black car in a while.”
After making a difference at Mercedes, Hamilton stated he will carry on his diversity initiative when he joins Ferrari.
We’ve obviously talked about impact work, and John and the crew do a lot of charitable work, so we’ll be collaborating closely with Mission 44 on their impact initiatives, he said.
I believe that while we still have a lot to do in the sport, it’s really exciting because we’ll be working together a lot outside of it.
Hamilton disclosed earlier this year that his efforts to promote diversity figured heavily in his talks with Ferrari.
Hamilton stated in February, “Of course, you look at Ferrari, they have a lot of work to do, so I’ve already made that a priority in speaking with John.” “And they’re super excited to work on it also.”
Hamilton invested £20 million of his personal funds to establish Mission44, a nonprofit company that seeks to increase diversity in Formula One and the larger motorsport industry, in 2021.
