Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua’s competitor from Britain, is anticipated to be the opponent in their upcoming bout, which is almost finalized.
On social media, Joshua disclosed that he was almost finished deciding on the specifics of his fifth fight after suffering a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022. September 21 at Wembley is likely the date and location.
“I’ve almost done negotiating for my next bout! Feeling inspired,” the 34-year-old tweeted.
After stopping Filip Hrgovic in the eighth round of their June 2 bout for the IBF interim title in Riyadh, Dubois is the most likely opponent. This victory makes him eligible to try for the full belt.
And if Usyk loses the IBF championship to Joshua in the anticipated rematch with Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia on December 21, it could be at risk because Usyk chose not to fight Dubois.
After defeating Fury in their first fight last month, Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, adding the WBC title to the IBF, WBA, and WBO belts he had previously taken from Anthony Joshua.
Although Deontay Wilder was thought of as Joshua’s natural opponent, his elimination by Zhilei Zhang in the fifth round earlier this month signified the end of his career as a contender in the division.
