Following rumors of an agreement for the versatile superstar Joshua Kimmich, Arsenal is getting closer to making a move for Kimmich, who is a star for Euro 2024.
At Bayern Munich, Kimmich has had a challenging season. Die Roten lost their first championship in more than ten years, and the 29-year-old’s position in Thomas Tuchel’s squad changed. After making an impression as a right-back in Bavaria, Kimmich was shifted to a full-time midfield position. However, Tuchel, who didn’t think he could play in the middle of the pitch, moved Kimmich back to his former full-back position last season.
The German publication Kicker first reported in the summer of last year that Bayern, who have since appointed Vincent Kompany as their new manager, thought the former RB Leipzig player was expendable.
According to HITC, Kimmich, who scored the crucial goal that eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League the previous season, is a target that Arsenal is actively considering signing.
This comes after Fichajes in Spain claimed earlier in the year that the German international and the North London outfit had already reached a deal, most likely in the form of a contract, should the two clubs be able to agree on a price.
In addition to Declan Rice, Kimmich would free up space for the Gunners to recruit a midfield forward; yet, the German could also play right back in lieu of Ben White.
With Kimmich’s exceptional experience and versatility, the signing would elevate Arsenal’s tactical and technical game. Since both Kimmich and Jurrien Timber can play in the first and second lines of buildup, Mikel Arteta could field a team that relies on them for full-back play. This would make the Gunners even more adaptable when playing out of the back and harder to press.
The 89-cap German is being sought after by half of Europe, which is just one sticking point to a deal that makes us think it’s still a long shot. If Arsenal wants to enhance their buildup with another dynamic operator, they may decide to pass on Kimmich in favor of a more natural defender. Arsenal is not one to be drawn into bidding wars unless they are leading the charge.
