Sir Jim Ratcliffe is preparing to make his first signings since taking charge of football affairs at Old Trafford earlier in the year
Arda Guler is a Turkish international who may have an impact at Old Trafford similar to Kevin De Bruyne’s at Manchester City, according to former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke, who has urged the team to move for the player.
With one of the tournament’s goals to aid Vincenzo Montella’s team in defeating Georgia, Real Madrid star Guler has made an impression for Turkey at Euro 2024. The 19-year-old’s strike against Wales during the tournament’s qualification process was only his second goal as a senior international, having scored his first goal nearly a year earlier.
With his six La Liga goals coming at a rate of one per 62 minutes, the former Fenerbahce starlet is coming off an impressive debut season in Madrid, albeit one that saw a lot of time on the bench after returning from injury. It’s unclear how he will fit into the lineup for the upcoming season given that Endrick and Kylian Mbappe are both headed to the Bernabeu.
Yorke has cited several players who have prospered after switching from one major club to another, but there are no signs that Madrid intends to break company with Guler. He cites Mohamed Salah and De Bruyne, two former Chelsea players who became instant favorites at City and Liverpool, respectively.
“Arda Guler has some talk about him being this wunderkind for a couple of years now, and he’s shown he does have that special quality when he scored the wondergoal for Turkey,” Yorke said to Crypto Sports Betting. “After his incredible performance at the Euros, everyone will want to take him off Real Madrid’s bench.
We’ve seen players like Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne leave major clubs like Chelsea, and it has helped their careers; who’s to say Guler’s move from Real Madrid to Manchester United won’t have a similar effect? He requires a consistent weekly opportunity to play.
Everyone searches for a skilled, fast solution, but we shouldn’t ignore Guler, who has the potential to be a world-class player. I fully support Man United acquiring him.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over as manager of football affairs this summer, and this is the first transfer window, but things have been going slowly. United’s transfer preparations are reportedly behind those of their Premier League rivals because Dan Ashworth, the new sporting director, is currently on gardening leave from Newcastle United.
United is also awaiting the start of work for CEO Omar Berrada, who recently joined from City Football Group; nevertheless, the transfer of technical director Jason Wilcox from Southampton is now complete. In an interview with Bloomberg, Ratcliffe also revealed a possible explanation for the delay.
“It will require some time,” he said. “On the sports side, Omar, Dan, and Jason are important pillars; we only have Jason in place. In that regard, we’re a little more limited, but yet, I think we’ll perform admirably. To reach a better spot, two or three summer windows will be needed.
