According to an ESPN source, Manchester United anticipates that Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood will return to training if they haven’t left the team by the beginning of the preseason.
Players who are not competing in the Copa América or the European Championship have been instructed by United to return to Carrington on July 8.
By that date, if Sancho and Greenwood are still United players, the team will be seeking to find them other clubs; otherwise, they should be back in training.
Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille are among the teams that want to sign Greenwood. He may be training at Carrington for the first time since January 2022, when he was suspended after being arrested on charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.
In February 2023, the case against the attacker was dismissed, and Greenwood resumed his career at Getafe during the previous season on loan.
The plans for Sancho’s possible comeback have not yet been finalized, an insider informed ESPN.
The 24-year-old, who was on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the second part of the previous season, hasn’t practiced with the first team since his September public spat with manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho has reportedly been offered to Barcelona and Juventus, according to sources who spoke with ESPN. However, the valuation of over £40 million ($51 million) is proving to be a barrier for prospective teams.
While considering loan bids has not been ruled out, United would prefer to agree to Sancho and Greenwood’s permanent departures.
Following discussions with Rene Hake, the manager of the Go Ahead Eagles, United is currently reorganizing Ten Hag’s personnel in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
The 52-year-old Hake, who worked with Ten Hag at FC Twente, is expected to be handed a position in the backroom staff at Old Trafford as a result of the progressed negotiations.
According to a source close to ESPN, Hake will likely be included in a coaching staff reorganization that also involves the hiring of Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United striker and PSV Eindhoven manager.
It raises questions about what will happen to Ten Hag’s 2022 arrivals, assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.
Benni McCarthy, the forwards coach, is also expected to depart; his contract is set to expire at the end of the month.
