Manchester United’s newest summertime interest in a player is Manuel Ugarte.
The 23-year-old Ugarte only signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain last summer. However, the Uruguayan international is being linked to a move out of the French city just a year and a half later.
The MEN is aware that, in addition to a central defender and a center-forward, United has designated midfield as one of its top three positions to enhance during this transfer window. The most recent information and rumors regarding Ugarte possibly relocating to Old Trafford are compiled here.
The first offer was “rejected.”
PSG rejected an offer from United, according to a Tuesday report from L’Equipe. The precise amount is still unknown, but the Parisian club is reported to have felt it was insufficient.
The reports, however, indicate that the negotiations continued and were not deemed closed at that point. The athlete was reportedly attracting interest from two Italian teams, one German team, and an unidentified English club.
Before PSG surprised Chelsea by signing Ugarte from Sporting last summer, Chelsea came very close to doing so. After that, the West London team paid more than twice as much as Ugarte’s £52 million release clause to recruit Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Confirmed touch with United
The Telegraph refuted many allegations made by the French stories shortly after they were first published. According to their report, United maintains that only exploratory talks have taken place as they decide whether or not to formally declare their interest.
However, it is said that they rejected a deal that was significantly less than the club’s worth, citing PSG sources. There is also a clear discrepancy between PSG’s asking price and what United is willing to give.
According to the source, following a patchy debut season, Ugarte is expected to depart the Parc des Princes this summer. However, a year after shelling out over £50 million for the star, the club hopes to at least break even.
Before the Copa America last month, Ugarte spoke about his future, stating: “Next season still with PSG? I desire that I can stay here. We’ll watch to see what transpires.”
The footballer has a history of visiting clubs for brief periods. Following his January 2021 arrival in Portugal at Famalicao from Fenix, he had an outstanding second half of the season and signed for Sporting that summer.
Then, Ugarte was only in Lisbon for two years before joining PSG. But before that, he made his professional debut before turning 15 and spent four years playing at the Fenix Club in Montevideo.
