CM Punk reflected on the evening his aspirations of being a WWE star abruptly came to an end.
After his unexpected comeback at Survivor Series, Punk declared that his televised comeback match would happen at the 2024 Royal Rumble, roughly ten years after his last WWE match before the historic walkout. Many believed Punk would still be heavily featured at WrestleMania 40 and possibly be in the main event of night one, even though he would make it to the last two before being ousted by Cody Rhodes. But soon after the Rumble, punk declared he would not be participating in Mania after, during the bout, he was struck by Drew McIntyre with a DDT, causing him to tear his triceps.
Before SummerSlam, Punk spoke with Michael Cole about how he felt when he realized he had been hurt:
“I said it exactly as I meant to.” No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I exclaimed. I reached over right away and felt a hole in my arm the size of a quarter. I just replied, “Okay, well, it’s already gone.” Nothing is within your power. Let’s attempt to resolve this.
CM Punk Made A Comeback During SummerSlam
Punk made McIntyre’s life a living hell by keeping him out of the ring for six months due to injury, and at SummerSlam, he made a comeback to the ring with McIntyre, with Seth Rollins serving as the special guest referee. In their rematch, McIntyre defeated Punk, a native of Chicago, after his emotions overcame him.
