According to reports, Julian Alvarez is almost finished moving from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid in a transaction that will likely cost over £81 million.
Although the agreement is not yet finalized, it is believed to consist of an initial payment of 75 million euros and a further 20 million euros, and it would be a record sale for City.
The fact that it marks a sizable return on a player City acquired for £14 million in 2022 from River Plate in his home Argentina highlights Pep Guardiola, the manager of City,’s readiness to consider bids that are competitive for any of his players.
Alvarez succeeded in his first season with City (2022–2023). By Christmas that year, he had won the world championship with Argentina. He later won the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Champions League with his new team, which went on to win the English Premier League the previous season.
Alvarez emphasizes City’s capacity to recognize and hire exceptional people from South America, just like Gabriel Jesus did before him.
Brazilian attacker Savinho, who was impressed while on loan at Girona, joined the team for the upcoming campaign from Troyes. Meanwhile, Claudio Echeverri, who arrived in January from River Plate, will begin playing at the Etihad Stadium at the beginning of the following season.
With Alvarez joining Atletico Madrid, the Spanish team may be able to sell striker Samu Omorodion to Chelsea.
