The last three deals Man City has signed are expected to close, bringing in a total of over £500 million in revenue from player sales.
In a deal set to surpass City’s club record sale, Julian Alvarez would join Atletico Madrid for a reported £64 million, with the possibility of add-ons worth up to £81.5 million. In 2022, City paid £14 million for the Argentine forward, and now they have made a significant profit on that investment.
With a deal worth up to £5 million, Micah Hamilton will become a permanent fixture at Middlesbrough. City will also retain the right to match any bids made for the 20-year-old attacker, who scored on his Blues debut, as well as a repurchase and 25% sell-on option. The young player impressed so well in six months that Aston Villa purchased him in January 2024 for eight times what Middlesbrough paid City, therefore both clubs benefited from a similar transfer for Morgan Rogers in 2023.
Alex Robertson has signed a £1 million contract with Cardiff City, a Championship team, with a 30% sell-on clause. Robertson is prepared to take a chance in a higher league despite his unfortunate injury from the previous season, where he made an impression at Portsmouth.
With those additions to the £8.4 million Real Sociedad paid for Sergio Gomez, as well as the £20 million each for Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Liam Delap, City will have received more money this summer than it did last year—£150 million. This raises the prospect that the Blues may raise more money in a single year than they did the previous season, which set a club record of just over £180 million.
Even if they don’t reach that goal, the total will still be sufficient to push City above the £500 million milestone since 2022, as they raised over £170 million in revenue the year they won the Triple Crown. The club’s capacity to make large expenditures when necessary without violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules is largely due to these sales.
City is also occupied with arranging loans for other young players in its roster. Callum Doyle and Mahamadou Susoho, who returned from City’s preseason tour in the United States, respectively, joined Norwich and Peterborough on Monday.
Hull City is poised to sign 21-year-old center-back Finley Burns, who played for Stevenage last season. All three agreements are season-long loans without purchase possibilities.
