If they can work out a deal to get the Burnley midfielder, Sander Berge, Manchester United is reportedly willing to offer him a £100,000 per week contract. Berge is being pursued by the Red Devils as they prepare to replace Casemiro, who seems to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and has been connected to a summer move to Saudi Arabia.
Following his slump in play during the previous season, United is eager to let go of Casemiro and remove his enormous salary off their books.
And Berge, who gained recognition at Sheffield United and the Clarets, might be the one to replace the Brazilian in the middle of the pitch.
Berge’s representatives are reportedly in contact with United already, and the player is reportedly thrilled about the chance to play at Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
Although United is only willing to pay £20 million for his signature, Burnley, which was demoted to the Championship after winning only five Premier League games the previous season, will seek £30 million to approve the transfer.
Should the 13-time Premier League winners extend their generous wage offer to the Norway international, he will receive five times the salary of Kobbie Mainoo, the team’s current midfielder.
After a run of outstanding performances, Mainoo became a first-team regular the previous season and is currently considered one of United’s top players. The 19-year-old was a member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 and scored during his team’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May.
Before the Three Lions lost to Spain in the final, he started every England knockout game.
To hang onto him and develop their team around him, United is anticipated to get Mainoo to sign a new deal in the northwest. However, Spotrac claims that the adolescent sensation’s current contract only pays him £20,000 a week. Furthermore, he wouldn’t exactly be ecstatic to see Berge making so much more than he did.
In the Premier League in April, Berge was on the field at Old Trafford as Burnley defeated United 1–1.
Ian Wright also delivered harsh criticism to Casemiro following the match, saying to Match of the Day, “This is just how easy you can get past the [United] midfield.”
Sander Berge is here with Casemiro. Berge has simply strolled past him, therefore he needs to stop now and prevent him from passing.
