Following a protracted absence due to an ACL injury, Barcelona midfielder Gavi has resumed team training.
With 47 appearances for the Spanish powerhouses in all competitions, the 20-year-old made his debut in Catalonia during the 2021–22 campaign.
During the 2022–23 season, Gavi played 49 times for Barca, scoring three goals and dishing out six assists, solidifying his spot in the starting lineup at Camp Nou.
In September 2021, the midfield player received a chance to play for Spain’s first squad after seeing a quick ascent in the senior game at club level.
Gavi has now gained 27 caps for La Roja and scored five goals in those games, leading his country to victory in the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League last summer.
Barcelona is happy to have Gavi back on the team.
Barcelona has had a significant increase in fitness following the first international break of the 2024–25 schedule, as they get ready to battle on several fronts this season.
After over a year away from competitive play, Gavi has resumed first-team training before Sunday afternoon’s trip to Girona, which is heading for the Champions League.
The young player was photographed on Thursday with his teammates as Hansi Flick’s team got ready for this weekend’s trip to Estadio Municipal de Montilivi.
In November 2023, during Spain’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, Gavi made his final appearance in a game. Against Georgia, he was substituted midway through the first half due to an injury.
Later on, it became clear that the 20-year-old had sustained a catastrophic ACL damage, which would prevent him from playing for Barca or La Roja throughout the 2023–24 season. Barca went on to win Euro 2024 in Germany without him.
When will Gavi play again for Barcelona?
Gavi’s chances of playing on Sunday when Barca plays Girona in La Liga are slim, given he only returned to limited squad training this week.
The young player probably needs a few weeks of training on the grass with his teammates before he’s ready to play in the Champions League and his own country.
