Harry Kane is in line to break a Bundesliga record that was previously held by none other than Erling Haaland.
After joining Bayern Munich for £86.4 million from Tottenham last year, Kane needed almost no adjustment time.
In his first two Bundesliga games for the Bavarians, he scored three goals, and at the end of the season, he finished with an incredible 36 goals from 32 games.
The 31-year-old added eight assists to his tally, but his goals were insufficient to help Bayern win the league for a record 12 times running. Instead, Xabi Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title during their undefeated league season.
Even if Kane’s trophy drought continued, he still holds several club and international records, the two largest of which being the records for most goals scored by Tottenham and England.
By weekend’s end, he might add another to his list.
Kane needs three more goals—either goals or assists—to become the fastest player in Bundesliga history to reach 50 goals and assists.
The Bayern striker has scored 47 goals in just 34 league games.
If he surpasses the fifty-seven-run mark this weekend, he will have done it more quickly than Manchester City’s prolific scorer Erling Haaland.
Haaland had a fantastic two-and-a-half season with Borussia Dortmund, scoring an incredible 86 goals in 89 games in all competitions.
Even if Kane is unable to reach 50 in his upcoming game, he still has a good chance of doing it before Haaland does, since the Norwegian needed 43 games to reach the milestone.
On Saturday, Bayern will visit Holstein Kiel, who were promoted from the German Second League the previous year.
Holstein Kiel has lost both of their games this season and let up five goals, so Kane will be salivating over what appears to be a weak defence.
Bayern, on the other hand, has won both of its opening games under new manager Vincent Kompany.
This season, Kane has already netted a goal and provided an assist. He also scored a penalty kick as Bayern defeated Freiburg 2-0.
The 31-year-old will seek to pick up precisely where he left off as he celebrates his 100th England cap in style.
In England’s easy 2-0 Nations League victory over Finland, Kane scored both goals to increase his total number of international goals to 68.
