Following rumours that the Denmark midfielder would leave Old Trafford, Christian Eriksen has decided to postpone deciding his future at Manchester United.
One of Erik Ten Hag’s first acquisitions as United manager in 2022 was Eriksen, but the 32-year-old’s position was reduced the previous campaign.
throughout a wave of transfer rumours throughout the offseason, the former Tottenham player—who suffered a cardiac collapse at the 2021 European Championship—was connected to both his previous team, Ajax, and the Belgian team, Anderlecht.
However, Eriksen stayed with United after the transfer window closed and has improved since being back in the starting lineup.
He started the season for the first time in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Southampton. On Tuesday, he dominated Barnsley 7-0 in the League Cup third round, scoring twice.
Eriksen remarked, “I feel really good being at United.” “I would leave if they told me to, but I didn’t hear that.”
“My goal will always be to live somewhere where my family is settled and where I can play and benefit at the same time. I’m just a guy that likes that.”
When asked about his long-term plans, he responded, “There’s one year left so my focus is going to be on this year, going full out and seeing what happens afterwards.” His contract expires next year.
Since Eriksen entered the starting lineup, United has scored ten goals without receiving a response.
But considering the increasing competition in United’s midfield, he recoiled at the idea that he might have discussed his job and minutes with Ten Hag.
“Asking the manager in the off-season how many minutes I’ll play in a season is difficult,” Eriksen remarked.
“Our season will be lengthy if he begins guaranteeing guys minutes!
“There was just head down, work hard, and focus on each game; there was no speaking in that sense.”
