After Saturday’s victory over Brighton, former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf has advised Enzo Maresca to quit doing just one thing.
Cole Palmer stole the show as the Blues defeated the Seagulls 4-2 to extend their winning streak to 3 games in the Premier League.
Chelsea now sits fourth in the Premier League with 13 points, just two behind early leaders Liverpool, after winning their sixth straight game. They had only lost one of their previous six games.
Leboeuf tells Enzo Maresca to give up on one activity.
Even though Chelsea won the game, there were still issues, particularly with Robert Sanchez and the manner the team was playing from the back.
Sanchez made two careless mistakes that may have contributed to Brighton’s first two goals, but aside from that, Chelsea barely gave them any opportunities.
Brighton’s set-up and several errors throughout the match furthered Chelsea’s advantage.
The former Blue Leboeuf has asked Maresca to tell his teammates to cease playing out of the back because he dislikes it. He has also told Fabian Hurzeler to do the same.
“I have one [piece of] advice for these two teams’ coaches: gentlemen quit playing from behind! You lack the necessary staff to do it. He informed ESPN.
While many supporters will sympathise with Leboeuf’s complaints, it is important to remember that Maresca was hired to play this particular style of football, and that won’t be changing anytime soon.
This season, Chelsea will let up more goals than they did on Saturday. Maresca acknowledged this after the game, telling Sanchez that Chelsea wanted to play that way and would give up ten more goals as they did against Brighton.
Although the errors ultimately did not lose Chelsea the three points, this season, a mistake made from the back will ultimately determine a win or a loss.
