Riccardo Calafiori was spotted in tears after landing awkwardly vs Leicester
Before Arsenal’s match against PSG, manager Mikel Arteta gave an update on Riccardo Calafiori’s health.
As Arsenal defeated Leicester 4-2 to maintain their perfect season, the Italian defender made a winning start in his second game for the team.
The visitors had battled back from behind to equalise, and it took two goals in stoppage time for the Gunners to win.
Moments before the finish, Calafiori and Odsonne Edouard went head-to-head for a header, and he landed awkwardly. After the game, he was seen crying and wearing a knee brace.
Ben White, who missed the victory over the Foxes due to an injury, and the £42 million Bologna acquisition, according to Arteta, may be able to play against PSG if additional testing is conducted.
“We have to review today, those are the two players in contention,” Arteta stated at the news conference held before the game.
He continued, “We didn’t have a training session yesterday,” about Calafiori. After the game, he was a little emotional. We’ll see how he is now.
Since moving to Manchester City in the summer, Calafiori has been on the rise and scored in last week’s intense 2-2 tie.
When Arsenal hosts the French champions at the Emirates, they will look to win the Champions League for the first time this year, and Arteta is up for the challenge.
“Everyone is excited about it,” he remarked. This season, the group stage is a little different, and the opposition we play tomorrow is arguably the best in all of European football.
However, it’s a terrific chance for us to assess our resilience to these evenings, our level of preparation, and our ability to assert ourselves in this kind of environment.
“PSG is outstanding; they control every aspect of the game.” They know exactly how they want to use the ball to control the game, and they know that when they don’t have it, they want it back. They confront you and act aggressively about it.
“We want to win the game, and given the remaining number of games, we know it will be crucial following the draw in Atlanta.” There will be no decisions made tomorrow.
