The iconic “Ucey” segment on SmackDown is still a highlight of beloved WWE great Jey Uso’s career.
Beloved WWE hero Jey Uso still can’t get over the iconic “Ucey” sequence on SmackDown, but it remains a highlight of his career. The new Intercontinental Champion, who is expected to defend the gold after inviting Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher to WWE’s performance in Manchester, is still upset about it.
After welcoming Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher to WWE’s show at Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena on Wednesday, the new Intercontinental Champion—who is expected to defend the title—reflected on his wrestling career over the past 14 years.
He said in an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk: “The Ucey segment is probably one of the funniest, coolest, and dopest segments on TV, but it was also the most embarrassing for me because I was just stuck laughing on TV.”
In late 2022, during a segment including his brothers Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, as well as their straight-talking cousin Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn remarked he wasn’t feeling “very Ucey.” He completely broke character and started giggling.
Even worse, the Tribal Chief made sure Jey was in the centre of attention while everyone was looking.
“I had to turn away from the camera a few times, like I had to because I was just grinning so much, man,” he said with a giggle. If you think about it, Roman was attempting to get to me and make me laugh more.
He went on to say that it was likely one of the greatest moments in WWE history, taking fans on a true emotional journey.
“If you look at that segment, first Sami Zayn and I had a promo, which probably could have been its segment, and then it evolved,” he said.
It became light after being so weighty. And in that segment, we gave everyone, like, every emotion. It was simply the finest! That will never, ever, ever be repeated, in my opinion.
Jey found himself “laughing every week” after the funny occurrence, despite his best efforts to contain it for the benefit of the show.
“You know, I’m a professional,” I began to think. “I should relax,” he said. “But, man, it was really difficult to maintain my composure around him and my brothers.”
As his rival turned ally played a crucial role in his development as a performer, he acknowledged that his time with Sami and The Bloodline was “probably one of the best times of his wrestling career.”
He said, “I know we hated each other on screen, but we love each other in the back, but it just came off on TV so naturally.” “Sami helped my character,” he said.
Even if there have been indications that they are still in agreement, Jey doesn’t believe that they will be running side by side when the moment is perfect.
“I’d like to collaborate with him,” he continued. “I want you to see a little bit of me and him on Raw right now, but I want to go, like, full-blown tag team with him and see how that goes,” the man said.
