After quick negotiations in October, Thomas Tuchel was officially announced as England’s manager. Before having advanced discussions with The FA during the past week, the 51-year-old accepted a casual approach about three weeks ago. In reality, Tuchel signed his England contract on October 8, but according to the FA, they decided not to make the announcement right away so as not to interfere with Lee Carsley’s preparations for the Nations League matches against Finland and Greece.
Tuchel stated right away that he was drawn to the position, and the FA believes he meets their requirements since he is not only a top-tier coach with a track record of winning trophies, including the 2021 Champions League with Chelsea, but also someone who is well knowledgeable about English football. Many members of England’s senior team, notably Harry Kane, the captain of Bayern, have worked with Tuchel.
Tuchel declared, “I am extremely honoured to have been granted the responsibility of leading the England team.” “The game in this nation has always held a special place in my heart, and it has already provided me with some amazing experiences. Being able to play for England is an enormous honour, and it’s thrilling to have the chance to work with this unique and gifted set of players.”
Anthony Barry, a former Chelsea assistant who accompanied Tuchel to Bayern, will join him. Henrique Hilario, Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, is also anticipated to join Tuchel on a part-time basis.
Additionally, Tuchel is expected to be among the most-paid managers in England. According to sources who spoke to GIVEMESPORT, he will make about £6 million plus bonuses, which is comparable to what Fabio Capello makes.
Pep Guardiola may extend the Man City contract in the coming weeks.
The Spaniard was being considered by the FA to take Gareth Southgate’s place.
The other name was Pep Guardiola. He never had a formal interview with the FA, despite their consideration for the England position. Guardiola was a perfect target in many ways, but the FA understood he would be the most costly of all possible candidates and did not receive any firm evidence that Pep wanted to leave club football.
Manchester City hopes to reach an agreement by the end of November, which is probably a one-year extension, with Pep for another season.
Although Guardiola has not yet disclosed his plans, City is already making every effort to keep him on the team for at least another year.
Guardiola’s choice is unlikely to be impacted by any repercussions from Manchester City’s 115 charges related to suspected financial code violations. Theoretically, Manchester City might be demoted or even kicked out of English football if they were proven guilty. Guardiola is not considering this as a worst-case scenario. The club is confident in their ‘not guilty’ stance, he has been told privately, and any extension would most likely give him a break clause if the Premier League’s defending champions are relegated.
The fact that Txiki Begiristain, the sporting director, is leaving after the season does not worry Guardiola either. He is completely supportive of Hugo Viana, Begiristain’s replacement, and was aware of his departure as early as last year.
Although Viana will formally begin working alongside Begiristain in the summer of 2025, there will be a transitional period from early next year until the end of the season. Viana hopes Pep will have written something by then; if not, finding a substitute would be one of his first jobs. Naturally, there have been rumours of a relationship between Manchester City and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, but the club’s top goal is to maintain Pep for as long as possible.
