Before the Six Kings Slam final, Jannik Sinner has voiced concerns.
After defeating the 24-time Major champion in Thursday’s semi-final, the world No. 1 earned his second victory against Novak Djokovic in as many days.
With £4.6 million on the line, Sinner will now play Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match on Saturday. The Italian, though, might not be prepared to fight hard.
On Thursday evening, Sinner and Djokovic fought for nearly two and a half hours, but the world No. 1 eventually prevailed. Sinner was put to the test as he won 6-2 6-7(0) 6-4, only days after overcoming the Serb in the Shanghai Masters final.
Sinner and Djokovic gave it their all, despite the fact that it was merely an exhibition match. The world No. 4 subsequently received treatment from the physiotherapist after the 23-year-old was shown having difficulty early in the second set.
Sinner acknowledged that both of them had been “tired” after securing his spot in the final and acknowledged that he might find it difficult to restrain himself in his upcoming bout.
The two-time Grand Slam champion remarked, “I feel like we were both a bit tired, making a few mistakes, when we played a final in Shanghai not too many days ago.”
We all enjoy playing here, so I was just trying to be there.
Although Sinner is renowned for his cool-headedness in court, he acknowledged that when he was fatigued, things may become challenging. “Normally, I am pretty calm, like today,” the Italian went on.
It’s fortunate that I have another chance on Saturday because I get anxious too and occasionally lose control when I’m a little exhausted.
“As we previously stated, we will attempt to put on a good show for all of you, even though I may not be at my best or as fresh as possible.”
Additionally, Djokovic will return to action on Saturday when he plays Rafael Nadal, his longtime nemesis, in a third-place playoff match. Having pushed Sinner to the limit in the semi-final, he is probably going to take the match extremely seriously.
It was a difficult game. About their match, Sinner remarked, “I think we all tried to raise our level, trying to play every point in the best way possible.”
It’s never simple, of course, but we do take it seriously and work hard to get better for both our current game and our next games. We are all attempting to give it our all against anybody we play against, and we know each other rather well now.
