During summer transfer windows, a large number of players come and go from Man City every year.
In the last transfer window, for example, players like Julian Alvarez, Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, and Joao Cancelo left City to sign with other teams.
Pep Guardiola’s team has gone undefeated in every tournament thus far this season as a result of those departures.
The next summer transfer window is still a long way off, but some behind-the-scenes information has surfaced that one member of the City team does not want to see.
If Guardiola isn’t impressed with Matheus Nunes, Man City will sell him.
According to a recent report by Give Me Sport, City is “not ruling out the possibility of cashing in” on Matheus Nunes in the summer, and if he doesn’t have a significant influence for the remainder of the season, there is “a good chance of him being sold in the summer.”
According to the report, Nunes is “determined to make the grade at Manchester City, resulting in him telling key decision-makers behind the scenes that he is dedicated to working hard to make it into Guardiola’s preferred starting line-up, but his current employers are still entertaining sanctioning his departure within the next 12 months.”
Nunes has stated his primary goal at City. During the summer transfer window of 2023, City paid £53 million to acquire the Portuguese international from Wolves.
Since then, the 26-year-old has only started 16 of his 37 appearances in all competitions, including City’s Champions League match against Sparta Prague.
It was reported back in May, near the end of the midfielder’s first season at City, that Guardiola wants to give Nunes more playing time because he sees him as a valuable player.
More recently, Nunes stated thus on his primary goal for City this season, despite just playing 25 minutes in five substitute Premier League appearances.
“I want to win the Champions League,” he declared. I have this as my top dream.
“City always competes for every title; they won it two seasons ago, and we will compete for it this year. And I’m in the ideal position to do it.
Given rumours that he could be sold in the summer, Nunes will need to take advantage of every chance he gets this season and prove to Guardiola why he is worthy of staying with the team.
