In his eagerly awaited WWE comeback match, CM Punk battled Dominik Mysterio, one of the main roster’s youngest talents, live at Madison Square Garden, one of the most famous stadiums in the world, rather than at a high-end live event.
When Mysterio recently appeared on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” he discussed the significance of his first WWE match against Punk and why it was unique.
“Kinda crazy,” Dominik said when asked about his feelings about being selected as Punk’s first opponent after his comeback to the WWE. “We have so much amazing talent right now, especially with the roster we have today, ‘Raw’ and ‘SmackDown.’ I didn’t think it would be me alone.” As you mentioned, I’m happy I was able to deliver his first blow because they trusted me enough to go in there with him on his first match back.
Being the first to take on Punk, according to the Judgment Day member, was a sign that the promotion believed in him.
“I knew the firm trusted me with things like that, so it was unique. Once more, I had no idea until I was asked, “Hey, how do you feel about working with CM Punk on the live events tour?” “Yeah,” I said. Go ahead and do it. Come on. I was eager and prepared for it as I knew it would be another chance and challenge for me.
Dominik, who was introduced to his father Rey Mysterio’s conflict with Punk more than ten years ago, went on to say that taking on Punk was another goal he had crossed off his list. Two live events saw Punk and Dominik square off; the first was held at MSG in New York, while the second was held at The Kia Forum in California a few days later. Punk prevailed in both.
