Toby Collyer, a young midfielder for Man Utd, is expected to miss around a month of activity because of an injury. Academy coaches have a lot of respect for Collyer, who made his Premier League debut in early September against Liverpool, taking Casemiro’s place.
He made his final appearance with the main team during the Europa League 3–3 tie with FC Porto.
Before Brentford’s triumph, former United manager Erik ten Hag acknowledged Collyer’s injury but gave no other information.
It has now been claimed by the Manchester Evening News that Collyer is expected to be benched for ‘approximately a month’ as a result of this problem.
Collyer last competed for United on October 6th while playing for the Under-21 team against Liverpool.
He started two games for the Young Lions in his debut for England’s Under-20s during the October international break, but he will now be out for a short while.
Earlier this week, Collyer was given the ball from his Premier League debut in a glass box by academy head Nick Cox, and the young youngster posed with the memento at Carrington.
During Wednesday night’s 5-2 victory over Leicester City, Collyer was seen sitting next to Christian Eriksen and Harry Maguire in the directors’ box at Old Trafford.
Collyer told club reporters, “It’s been great,” as he spoke warmly about his growth and rise to the first team.
“I finally made the move to the first-team setting, something I’ve always desired to do. I’m concentrating on putting in a lot of effort and attempting to join the team.
“I remember being thrilled and excited, buzzing [when training with the first team for the first time],” he continued, recalling his early experiences.
“I kept thinking after the first few sessions I need to stay here, this is what I need to do.”
According to sources earlier in the season, Collyer was ‘appreciated’ by then-manager Ten Hag, while another highlighted his remarkable ‘freakish’ running numbers during practice sessions, which were only topped by Bruno Fernandes.
Collyer’s extraordinary levels of fitness have caused quite a stir at United.
The then-gaffer Ten Hag praised the Worthing-born player’s work ethic during the summer, seeing him as a key member of the future first-team brigade.
He is known for being “very professional,” which is evidence of his hard work off the training field. He regularly extends his regimen at Carrington’s fitness centers.
