After being substituted due to an injury early in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday, Micky van de Ven made a message on the internet. The Carabao Cup fourth-round match lasted just 13 minutes for the Dutchman.
Van de Ven’s hamstring issue has returned nearly precisely a year after he was sidelined for more than two months due to it during the previous season. Physiotherapists had to treat and assist the 23-year-old on the field before he could limp off.
As he made his way, he seemed to be crying. Van de Ven previously suffered from hamstring strains and gripped the back of his right leg after being tackled by City winger Savinho.
“Micky felt something in his hamstring,” Ange Postecoglou verified following the game. “I haven’t got the full update on him but he felt something and we’ll see how he is.”
Despite Van de Ven’s speed, the Australian has previously been hesitant to utilize him as a left-back. “I’ve been mindful of Micky,” he expressed during the previous season. “I have to be cautious with him with the demands of playing left-back in our system because he has had a few injuries. The physical demands at left-back are different, and I have to consider the future.”
Van de Ven sent a quick and cryptic comment on social media less than twenty-four hours after his colleagues advanced to the League Cup quarterfinals. On his Instagram story, he wrote, “Back soon.”
Van de Ven’s black-and-white post, which also includes a picture of him during the game with his hands on the back of his head, might portend bad news for Spurs. From Sunday’s match against Aston Villa until the next international break, Postecoglou and his team have three games in a week.
Due to his injury, Van de Ven is immediately doubtful to play against Villa in the pivotal top-four match. As Tottenham defeated City by a slim margin, they also dismissed Timo Werner, the game-winning goal, and Cristian Romero.
“Cuti [Romero] was a bit tired.” Postecolou clarified. “I considered switching him at halftime, but I didn’t want to lose another center-half after losing Micky.
“He claimed to be feeling fine, but I had a gut feeling that there was no use in taking a chance because Benny [Ben Davies] could step in. I thought it was more weariness than anything else because Timo hasn’t played much.”
