After addressing rumours that he was considering a position with the Brazil national team, Pep Guardiola has now spoken about his future at Manchester City.
It was generally anticipated during the summer that the five-time Premier League-winning coach would depart in 2025, and he has now reached the last year of his contract.
Guardiola’s close friend Txiki Begiristain, who was named director of football in October, will be replaced by Hugo Viana.
However, a “stronger school of thought” now holds, according to The Athletic, that Guardiola will remain at City for another year before pursuing his next position in his illustrious career.
A’shift in climate’ at the Etihad has reportedly been noticed by the club, although Guardiola has not yet made a decision about his future. A contract extension is still an option, even if it was originally believed that he would leave after nine years in charge.
The 53-year-old has previously signed new contracts in November of 2020 and 2022. Additionally, it would be a good idea to get together and talk about the situation when the international breakfast draws near.
It is believed that if Guardiola does depart, he may follow in the footsteps of Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino by transitioning into international management in time for the 2030 World Cup.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which has contacted Guardiola multiple times this year, is rumoured to be interested in hiring him. Guardiola ‘likes the concept’ of leading the Selecao, who are having trouble under current manager Dorival Junior, according to the same article.
Guardiola made a lighthearted comment in response to a reporter’s question regarding his prospects of leading Brazil’s national team before restating his dedication to the Premier League winners.
Guardiola joked, “I’m no longer an option after a 4-1 defeat,” before continuing. “I want to help the team [Manchester City] and get them back to their best level more than ever.”
Despite losing three straight games for the first time since April 2018, Guardiola has stated that he enjoys the challenge of leading a tiny squad, something that most managers might fear.
“I am here, but it is a tough challenge,” he continued. We were aware from the beginning that the season would be difficult. However, this is the situation. I want to tackle it, encourage my players, and give it a shot because I enjoy and adore it.
