Concerning Manchester United’s recent dismal performance, Paul Scholes has raised the alarm. In spite of two ugly victories in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s team will be feeling a little better about themselves.
United overcame a deficit to upset Brentford at home in the dying seconds, and they required a stunning Diego Dalot goal to defeat a depleted Sheffield United team over the weekend. These victories came in the midst of a season that has gotten off to a slow start and has seen the Red Devils struggle in the Champions League as well.
Ten Hag’s team needs to win Tuesday night’s match against Copenhagen in order to close the gap on teams above them in the group. Ten Hag’s team has dropped both of its opening two Champions League games, most recently to Galatasaray.
In the meantime, United’s ‘total disaster’ last time out in the Champions League has been discussed by club great Scholes, who also explains why the two Premier League victories are not expected to be the catalyst for a significant turnaround.
Scholes stated on TNT Sports that “this week is critically important.” “After losing to Galatasaray, they are in a bad situation; their opening home game was a total bust.
“I don’t know how much confidence the two Premier League victories will give them. One of them barely made it [against Brentford], and again on Saturday night against a team you would expect to be relegated [Sheffield United], the performance wasn’t terrific.
They simply aren’t firing at the moment. I’m not sure what the problem is, but it appears like there are constantly changes made to the team. This may be due to suspensions or injuries, for example. Without a doubt, they must win this match, and they likely must win three of their next four Champions League games as well.
