In an attempt to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, Manchester United has discreetly reached out to Graham Potter, the former Chelsea manager.
After the team’s terrible start to the season, the Dutchman is feeling more and more pressure at the Theatre of Dreams.
United has dropped 12 of its 24 games in all competitions this season, ending up bottom in their Champions League group, losing to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and languishing in ninth place in the Premier League.
Ten Hag’s future has not been decided by United due to delays around Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s interest in the team.
On the other hand, Sir Dave Brailsford is currently conducting an audit of the club’s operations, and INEOS’s 25% interest is anticipated to be approved within the next four to six weeks.
Although selecting a new CEO and sporting director is crucial, Ten Hag’s future at the team is seriously in doubt.
In order to watch whether United can improve when players like Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez get back to full fitness, INEOS would prefer to have Ten Hag in place until at least the conclusion of the season.
However, it is acknowledged that the current performance cannot continue, and according to ESPN, Potter has been “informally” contacted on his availability.
Potter hasn’t had a job since Chelsea fired him in April of last year.
Just seven months prior, the Englishman had left Brighton to take Thomas Tuchel’s place at Stamford Bridge, but he was not well-liked by the west London supporters.
However, Potter’s coaching abilities have impressed INEOS, and last summer, he was contacted about taking over as Nice’s new manager.
Potter is rumored to be waiting to go into management, so if the position at Old Trafford opens up, he might be interested.
