On Thursday, Eric Dier travelled to Germany for a medical examination in preparation for his January transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich.
While Bayern was eager to recruit Radu Dragusin, 21, from Genoa, the Romanian centre back ultimately decided to join with Spurs over the Bundesliga winners, thus the team instead moved for Dier, 29.
Bayern has agreed to give Tottenham £3.4 million in exchange for Dier, according to Sky Sports.
When Spurs signed Dier in 2014, they paid Sporting Lisbon £600,000 less than this amount.
But given that Dier’s contract was about to expire in June, a lot of people will view this as a decent bargain for the London club.
Despite making 365 appearances for Spurs, Dier has only played in 198 minutes of games since Ange Postecoglou took over as manager in the summer.
Due to injuries to Dier’s primary central defenders, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Postecoglou has frequently chosen to play full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal out of position rather than Dier because he is concerned about Dier’s lack of speed.
In Munich, Dier will catch up with Harry Kane, his former England teammate and Spurs player.
Kane has scored 25 goals in his first 22 appearances for Bayern, indicating a fantastic start to life in Germany.
