Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to return to Liverpool when their winter break ends.
Bournemouth play the Reds on the south coast this Sunday after a much-needed time of rest for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Szoboszlai has given an update on his health during the lull while he heals from a hamstring issue.
But Trent Alexander-Arnold will have to be patient in his comeback from a knee injury, along with longer-term absentees such as Andrew Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas and Thiago Alcantara.
This is the most recent information about Liverpool injuries and expected return dates.
Dominik Szoboszlai
Due to a hamstring injury, Hungarian midfielder Szoboszlai has missed two games, and Klopp said earlier this month that he was unclear of when the player would be ready to play again.
Although he doesn’t seem to be participating in full training just yet, he should be back in the mix for Liverpool’s post-winter fixtures.
Szoboszlai stated that it is “possible” that he plays against Bournemouth at an awards ceremony back home, but he added that he would be happy to wait if medical personnel erred on the side of caution.
Possible date of return: Sunday, January 21, vs Bournemouth
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold Alexander-Arnold, who was sighted at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Milan over the Christmas break, will be sidelined for a while.
His lateral knee ligament tore as a result of a knee injury he sustained in the FA Cup match versus Arsenal.
Pep Lijnders, the assistant coach at Liverpool, said he will be out for “a few weeks” due to injury.
Possible date of return: February 2024, mid- to late
Andrew Robertson
Klopp has been eager to downplay rumors that Robertson will be making a comeback this month.
Because of a shoulder injury that necessitated surgery in October, Liverpool has not yet allowed the Scottish defender to return to full training.
Three months were said to be the recovery period at the time, and the club said that he will shortly “get checked by the surgeon” for progress.
“He will go to Dubai for a week to do proper volume sessions, proper sessions, so that will be good for him,” Lijnders stated, “if he does that scan and we see everything [so] that we can really progress him.” The three-month mark scan is next, and after that, we can gauge how quickly he can get back in touch.”
Possible date of return: February 2024
Tsimikas Kostas
Tsimikas hasn’t played since shortly before Christmas due to a broken collarbone, which he sustained during the Premier League draw with Arsenal.
By the end of the month, Liverpool hopes to have the Greek defender back in the training fold.
Possible date of return: February 2024
Joel Matip
Early in December, Matip underwent successful surgery for a significant knee injury, according to the club.
The centre back’s Merseyside contract will expire at the end of the season if he misses any more games.
Possible time of return: 2024 summer
Thiago Alcantara
Thiago’s comeback from injury has encountered numerous obstacles, and he is still not ready to play this season.
It was disclosed earlier this month by assistant manager Lijnders that a return to training is anticipated for the following month.
Possible date of return: February 2024
Stefan Bajcetic
Bajcetic’s return to activity has presented Liverpool with challenges because of how his natural physical development has affected his ability to play on the pitch.
However, he has also been characterised as positive recently, with “progress” noted and February being mentioned as a potential return to full training.
