Man City has a significant interest in bringing Tottenham ace Pedro Porro back to the club ahead of the summer.
Another one of their previous players, midfielder Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, is rumored to be someone they are closely monitoring.
After being traded by the Citizens in 2022 and 2019, respectively, Porro and Luiz are once again being considered for surprise returns to the Etihad.
Once Porro joined Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2019 for an alleged £11 million from Girona, he stayed part of the City Group, albeit he did not play in any contests.
Since joining Tottenham on a permanent loan in January 2023 after leaving Sporting Lisbon in the summer, the right-back has flourished. In 21 games in all competitions this season, he has scored once and provided eight assists.
Similar to Luiz, who didn’t play for Manchester United, he spent two seasons on loan at Girona from City before moving permanently to Aston Villa in 2019 for an estimated £15 million.
Since Unai Emery took over, the Brazilian has become one of the league’s top midfield players, and if the Villans decide to sell, he may command a high price.
Football Insider (17 January) disclosed that Villa will request a price of approximately £100 million during the summer transfer window in exchange for the 25-year-old.
Additionally, sources told Football Insider on January 15 that Arsenal has long been an admirer of Luiz, although Liverpool and Barcelona are also in the running for the player.
If Porro and Luiz were to rejoin Pep Guardiola’s team after emerging as key members of their respective teams, their demands would undoubtedly surpass the sum that City sold them for.
After defeating Newcastle United 3-2, Man City moved up to second place in the Premier League, two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
On Friday, January 26, they take on Spurs in the FA Cup’s fourth round.
