Man Utd appear to want to give strengthening their backline first priority after struggling with their defensive shortcomings this season. Leny Yoro, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jean-Clair Todibo, and other names have all been connected to a move to Old Trafford; but, Buongiorno is starting to look like a viable contender.
Football Transfers reports that Buongiorno has been identified by INEOS, who will oversee United’s football team, as a potential addition to the team’s defence. They have “set their sights” on acquiring him either in January or the summer of next year.
According to the source, Torino is willing to consider bids for the Italian international, and they may be able to profit from him if they receive a bid of about £26 million. So, should Man Utd decide to acquire Buongiorno, he might be a reasonably priced addition.
Football Transfers adds that if INEOS, who also own OGC Nice, decide against buying Buongiorno for the Red Devils, they may choose to sign him to bolster the French team’s defence.
Alessandro Buongiorno to Man Utd
Buongiorno, who came through Torino’s junior system, has become a vital part of Ivan Juric’s starting eleven in recent times.
This season in Serie A, the defender has been having a great season, with three goals and nine clean sheets in 17 league games.
It is that Man United has expressed interest in hiring the Italian international after being impressed by his recent strong performances.
The 24-year-old centre back is left-footed and measures 6 feet 3 inches tall. He is a flexible player because he can also play left back. Strong and adept in the air, the defender feels at ease playing out from the back and makes excellent defensive contributions.
Buongiorno is an extremely gifted player who has the potential to develop into a world-class defence in the future. So, if Man Utd signs him, he may be a great addition to strengthen their defence.
It will be intriguing to observe, though, if the all-time Premier League winners decide to take more decisive action this year to recruit the Torino star.
