Against Chelsea last night, so many players were winning accolades. But among them all, Alexis Mac Allister was a player who, more than likely, deserved the recognition and was rather overlooked.
This is what a holding midfielder’s life is like. Their absence or presence on the team is frequently noted when they are not performing effectively. However, their efforts go unappreciated when they are doing well and giving the squad stability.
The media has primarily focused on Darwin Nunez and Conor Bradley. Each is deserving of recognition on its own. Bradley was amazing, and it’s amazing to watch him score a goal and provide two assists in such a significant game. Nunez was also playing at his peak, putting on a masterful display of pestering Chelsea’s defence. However, Mac Allister set a record that had not been surpassed by any other Liverpool player in the previous three seasons. Furthermore, nobody is discussing it.
Alexis Mac Allister vs Chelsea
For Liverpool, the Argentine was just incredible. He won the most duels (11) and made the most tackles (7) on the pitch. The comparison to Moises Caicedo, who was unable to win a single tackle during the game, makes Mac Allister’s performance all the more remarkable.
Furthermore, Mac Allister’s performance is even more impressive when compared to Liverpool players from the previous three seasons.
Squawka claims that over the previous three seasons, Mac Allister made the most tackles of any Liverpool player in the Premier League. In the match against Bournemouth earlier this year, Mac Allister was the only Liverpool player to record more tackles.
This statistic is not shocking. The midfield for Liverpool hasn’t been very strong in recent years. In the meanwhile, Mac Allister is unmatched.
