Erik ten Hag has finally found a perfect role for Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay
Finally, Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has found Scott McTominay the ideal job.
This season, the midfield player has seven goals and two assists in all competitions.
In the Premier League, he leads Man United in goals scored as well.
Ten Hag started McTominay nine times in a row in the league from late October to December due to many player injuries.
McTominay’s playing time has been limited due to the rise of Kobbie Mainoo and the return of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.
He has recently been deployed as an impact substitute by the United manager, and the move has been beneficial to the club.
McTominay may be a “super-sub” for Manchester United.
The Academy alumnus recovered the Red Devils’ two-goal lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux in just over a minute.
He was awarded an assist during Sunday’s 3-0 triumph of United over West Ham United.
In midfield, he stole the ball from Kalvin Phillips and pushed it wide, allowing Garnacho to beat Lukasz Fabianski with it.
Earlier in the season, McTominay proved to be the match winner for United against Brentford, scoring twice in injury time to give United a 2-1 victory.
Ten Hag, priced at €28 million, provided a steady run as the eighth player in the starting lineup.
But his presence unbalanced the midfield and had Bruno Fernandes play a lot of defence.
Since McTominay is a muscular midfielder with ball carrying skills, it seems like a better option to use him as a substitute.
The Red Devils can better handle aerial threats on set-pieces with his presence in the box.
The 27-year-old might be dangerous with his late dashes into the opposition’s box because he certainly has an eye for goal.
Ten Hag might turn McTominay into a box-to-box midfield player who enters the game as a substitute and gives it his all.
