At the center of Die Mannschaft’s offensive on the field are Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen and Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich, who have a great relationship with one another. Both players have demonstrated flashes of brilliance when playing together in attack for Julian Nagelsmann. They are most often found tucked behind or on either side of Kai Havertz, who plays as the most advanced attacker. Their profiles are similar in terms of their strengths and best attacking positions.
While Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are intense rivals for Musiala and Wirtz at the club level, the latter’s fame from Die Werkself is sweeping Europe. Numerous teams are eager to try to sign Wirtz, to the extent that Xabi Alonso has declared he will not allow the player to leave Leverkusen for anything less than €150 million. In other words, he is priceless, especially after a season in which he finished first in the Bundesliga and provided 20 assists en route to winning the DFB-Pokal.
Naturally, there have been links and speculations indicating that Wirtz would eventually sign with Bayern in what, should it actually happen, would probably go down as the team’s most costly ever transfer. The most recent reports in the gossip mill seem to indicate that he will ultimately choose between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in 2025, but only time will tell if that is the truth.
When Musiala was questioned about the possibility of playing alongside Wirtz at Bayern Munich after Germany’s EURO training camp, he attempted to be as polite and considerate to his fellow countryman as he could. “You’ve already seen how well we get along. We are all aware of Flo’s qualities and his fantastic season. I’m sure a lot of teams are watching him closely. Where he goes in the end is up to him. Every now and again, we crack jokes and suggest that he visit Bayern, but we don’t put any pressure on him. Germany’s #10 and Bayern’s #42 responded, “It’s just jokes between teammates,” when asked if he would one day like to be a member of Bayern teammates with Wirtz.
The two young talents will be concentrating on the EUROs with Germany for the time being, but it would be amazing to watch them play together at Bayern. The Rekordmeister will need to be at their best at the bargaining table when that time comes since Real Madrid and the other footballing heavyweights in Europe will undoubtedly make it clear that Bayern will be Wirtz’s next stop.
