Lennox Lewis, the former unified world heavyweight champion, has hinted that he would be open to facing Jake Paul in the future. When ‘The Lion’ faced off against a rising Vitali Klitschko in 2003, he prevailed to keep his WBC, IBO, and The Ring titles.
More than twenty years after his last fight, the 58-year-old still obviously maintains a close eye on changes within the boxing community. It seems like Lewis can’t help but dream about donning his gloves again in a professional capacity while YouTuber-turned-fighter Paul gets ready to take on Mike Tyson in November.
As ‘Iron Mike’ is scheduled to become 58 years old when he enters the ring at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium later this year, the legend might establish the standard for former stars making comebacks. Tyson is scheduled to compete for the first time since 2005, but his return has already been postponed due to a medical incident he had in May while traveling.
The event will no longer take place on July 20, as originally planned. But Lewis already has his sights set on being Paul’s next opponent following the rescheduled fight in the winter, saying to Fox 29 Philadelphia: “That’s a good question. I’m hoping Tyson holds onto a tiny piece of Jake Paul for me.
He declared, “Mike Tyson is going to win,” regarding the opponent he defeated in 2002. “Mike Tyson isn’t that elderly. Take him with a grain of salt. One year separates us. That kind of individual is not a true fighter, and there are a lot of things he’s learning that you have forgotten, so you can fight him and win.”
Aware of the danger posed by the “Baddest Man on the Planet,” Lewis stated: “[The age] will be a determining factor if the fight goes on too long, but if they get close and Mike Tyson lands a ten-second combination, he will definitely go down if one of those punches catches him.”
The legendary combat sports athlete, who was born in Britain, recently told The Guardian that he would never rule out going back into the boxing ring, saying, “As my friend says, I ain’t no fool.” I was trying to find out where you were. Money, in my opinion, walks and talks. That’s my point of view. I would absolutely think about it.”
Paul has not wasted any time in locating a replacement opponent for the initial date of his battle with “Iron Mike,” following the postponement of his fight with Tyson until later in the year. “When Paul vs. Tyson was rescheduled, I knew immediately that I wanted to still fight on Saturday, July 20,” he stated after accepting to take on Mike Perry.
Mike Perry is the best opponent I could have now as I get ready to meet Iron Mike. He is a demonstrated knockout performer who is insane both inside and outside the ring. I should get this experience only in case I have to fight Mike Tyson.”
“Yet gaining that experience carries some risk,” he continued. I’m Titanium Jake Paul, and I fear no man, despite the fact that “Platinum” Perry would try to terminate me. Those who know me know I take risks. I’m going to win and show everyone what I have coming to the fight with Mike Tyson.
