Dominic Calvert-Lewin is no longer being pursued by Newcastle United.
Following months of keeping an eye on the striker while considering a move, the club had inquired about the striker’s availability.
However, the Magpies have already left, which effectively puts a stop to any chance that winger Yankuba Minteh could shift the other way.
Throughout the latter months of the season, Newcastle was just one of many teams keeping an eye on Calvert-Lewin’s availability. Their curiosity was piqued when the 27-year-old scored a late equalizer at St. James’ Park to cap off a season filled with goals.
The ECHO revealed this interest last month, and last week it solidified into a proposal. However, following several intriguing days, Eddie Howe’s side has moved on.
Everton is also believed to be out of the running for Minteh following the breakdown of negotiations. The winger is available this summer, but as the ECHO previously reported, any hopes Everton had of competing for his signature were contingent on smooth negotiations over Calvert-Lewin setting the terms for a deal on terms they could meet. Newcastle is hoping to pay £40 million for the teenager.
Newcastle’s interest in Calvert-Lewin has temporarily decreased, but there is still uncertainty about the 27-year-old’s future. If he doesn’t accept the new offer that has been made to him, he will enter the last 12 months of his contract this summer. It’s believed that other teams, like West Ham United, are keeping an eye on the situation.
