According to sources, Mykhailo Mudryk is “desperate” to leave Chelsea to receive more regular playing time, and a transfer window in January may hold the key to his departure. Under Enzo Maresca, the Ukrainian, who cost £88.5 million with add-ons to join the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk, has made only one Premier League start this year.
He was given an opportunity from the outset against Wolves but was substituted off at halftime after failing to make an impression against Manchester City. Mudryk did not play Saturday at Bournemouth, although he did play 16 minutes as a substitute in the home tie with Crystal Palace.
Either way, Chelsea will unlikely get their £88.5 million signing bonus back. The best chance for his valuation to increase once more might be a successful loan somewhere else.
Not all of Chelsea’s players are willing to go in January, though, including Mudryk. The other three, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Ben Chilwell, may be sold if a good offer is made.
While Badiashile hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football this season, Disasi began the 1-0 victory at Bournemouth and may put himself back in the running for a regular first-team position. Ipswich and Crystal Palace are reportedly considering Chilwell’s January transfer.
Mudryk’s time at Stamford Bridge has been frustrating, even though he started both Europa Conference League play-offs against Servette. He has only made 62 appearances for the Blues since leaving Shakhtar, with five assists to his name.
Now that TEAMtalk is reporting that the 23-year-old is ‘desperate’ to move to another team to gain more playing time, it is likely that he will depart in January. Mudryk’s departure from Chelsea is said to be “very possible,” and the club is reportedly “open” to doing so.
The Premier League and other European leagues are showing interest in Mudryk. Despite their continued interest in him, Bayern Munich’s efforts to take him on loan in January were tempered by the arrival of Vincent Kompany, who took over for Thomas Tuchel earlier this summer.
Marseille is one more team vying for Mudryk. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to be a “big fan” of the winger and thinks he can bring out the best in him. The most likely scenario for Mudryk in January is a loan move because teams are typically hesitant to spend large sums of money in the middle of the season.
