Jamie Carragher briefly contrasted Chelsea players Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
During the summer, Chelsea brought both players to the team to increase Enzo Maresca’s alternatives.
The Blues acquired Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £54 million, and Jadon Sancho was brought in from Manchester United on loan with a purchase obligation.
At the interval, Neto took Sancho’s position in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend. “Neto was a good substitute on the day,” Leon Osman said.
Carragher was mostly focused on Pedro Neto and his part in Chelsea’s second-half loss against Liverpool. Neto was faster than Chelsea colleague Jadon Sancho.
However, before that, he implied that Maresca chose to bring in the Portuguese because Neto was the faster player between him and Sancho.
According to the Liverpool veteran who spoke on Sky Sports, “I don’t think Sancho has the pace really to go at a full-back, so at halftime, Neto comes on for Sancho.” Neto has it.
When Neto entered the game, he was able to have an effect. Despite only playing 45 minutes, Neto, 24, generated more chances than any other player.
Jadon Sancho ought to continue being Chelsea’s preferred left winger.
Sancho should still be Maresca’s first choice for the left wing even though Neto may have greater speed.
Starting Neto against Newcastle United on Sunday with Sancho on the bench would not be detrimental. Given his influence at Anfield, the Portugal international merits a starting position.
Instead of a left-footer going on the outside and delivering crosses into the box, Chelsea will likely be more dangerous in the long run if they had a right-footer cutting inside from the left like Sancho.
Noni Madueke is the man Sancho ought to be going up against. Maresca views Neto as a right winger, although he did initially take Sancho’s place on the left at Anfield.
However, it is fortunate that the former Wolves player is showing such versatility. On both sides, he offers Maresca an alternative.
