With the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager, Manchester United’s collapse, Antony, is about to receive a new lifeline.
For months, Antony’s future has been a hot topic of conversation. According to some rumours, Manchester United was prepared to approve his exit in January, but Ruben Amorim’s presence will make a difference. The Brazilian international is expected to receive a new lifeline under the Portuguese management, per a report from Football Insider.
The former Sporting CP manager, whose hiring was recently confirmed by the Red Devils, will give the former Ajax star a fresh start. The Brazil player has not been playing well at Old Trafford, but the new manager will give him chances to come back into the thick of things.
Erik ten Hag, the former manager, was eager to have Antony join the team. In the summer of 2022, United paid an enormous £85 million to entice him away from Ajax. The 24-year-old has never been reliable enough, despite a few strong outings.
Antony has been referred to as a failed signing since he has not lived up to expectations. The club was prepared to sell him in the summer, but things didn’t work out because he had slid down the hierarchy under the Dutch management.
The Brazilian attacker has only made five appearances for the Red Devils thus far. He has only spent 155 minutes on the field. United was prepared to approve his departure in the winter and was already searching for the perfect destination because the Sao Paulo graduate was slipping into Ten Hag’s hierarchy.
A lifeline will be provided to Antony.
However, such designs have undergone a little alteration. After a significant transition at the club, the Manchester-based team is not looking to let him go right away. United fired Ten Hag as a result of their new campaign having one of the worst starts.
The Dutch manager will be replaced by Ruben Amorim of Sporting. United will now play in a back three as a result of his arrival, changing the system. In addition, it will mean that each player, including Antony, will start from scratch.
He will have an opportunity to make an impression on the incoming manager and keep his United career intact. It will be intriguing to watch how things work out after he is handed a lifeline.
