Albert Sambi Lokonga may leave the Emirates Stadium due to his lack of playing time if Arsenal signs Jorginho.
Lokonga signed at the start of the previous season but has found it difficult to find opportunities this year despite the Gunners’ ascent to the top of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s favorite midfield trio has been Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, and Martin Odegaard.
Since that three has remained largely injury- and suspension-free, Lokonga has had to be content with a spot on the bench. But with Jorginho expected at the Gunners on deadline day, he might now be given a way out.
Lokonga would fall lower down the pecking order if Arsenal were to sign the Chelsea star for £12 million. Jorginho is on his way to the Emirates, therefore Arteta might be willing to let Lokonga leave on loan.
The Daily Mail reports that Crystal Palace is now in discussions with Arsenal about a potential loan transfer for the 23-year-old after that piqued their interest. He will have more opportunities if he transfers to Selhurst Park, and Arsenal is hoping he can find his best form there.
However, since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup, Palace has only achieved one victory, placing them in the middle of the standings. In an effort to improve their situation, manager Patrick Vieira has turned to his old team.
With few choices in central midfield, the Frenchman has been keeping an eye on Chelsea player Conor Gallagher for the majority of the transfer window. Gallagher, though, is not interested in rejoining the Eagles, thus Vieira is now focusing on Lokonga.
Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, has praised the club’s choice to sign Jorginho and argued that his background will be crucial as they attempt to win their first championship in 19 years. “It’s fantastic in my opinion. He has significant trophy wins, is a qualified holding midfielder, and you are purchasing experience as well “He spoke to Sky Sports.
“We were asking “why don’t England create one of these guys” only two years ago when he won the Champions League and Italy won the Euros? After two years, Arsenal will acquire him.
“Although he is two years older than me, I don’t mind because he is so smart and will take care of the back four. He’ll be providing food for Saka, Martinelli, and Odegaard. He’s a top signing in my opinion.
“He is aware of the game. He is aware that he won’t play every week. He is aware that he won’t play if everyone is healthy. However, he will bring his knowledge and composure, since he never loses his cool under pressure.”
