Darwin Nunez’s goal for Liverpool against Newcastle, in the opinion of Jamie Carragher, demonstrated what a special player he is.
At Saint James’ Park, Darwin gave Liverpool the lead in just the sixth minute by rifling home Trent Alexander-cross-field Arnold’s pass. The Uruguayan’s superb finish gave the Reds the perfect foundation for the remainder of the half.
No other striker in the Premier League would have taken the finish on, according to Carragher, who was the game’s analyst for Sky Sports.
The Liverpool icon remarked, “That’s how he finishes, he puts his foot through everything. “You just notice that he has that slight upward gaze; he never considers slipping the ball past the goalkeeper. He doesn’t slide it past the goalkeeper like I believe every other striker in the Premier League would have.
In addition, Carragher said that despite Nunez’s numerous wasted opportunities, the goal demonstrated his confidence as a player.
“What I appreciate about him is that after missing numerous significant opportunities, you never get the impression that he lacks confidence. The commentator gushed, “He has a great deal of self-confidence.
Darwin launches Liverpool into action
It should be very evident by this point that no one is quite like Darwin. The £64 million man from Liverpool is both a fantastic player and a pretty special person.
It’s wonderful to see him finally receiving justice this evening thanks to a goal.
The strike was Nunez’s first in the Premier League since November 12th, which is remarkable. Of course, there was a World Cup in between, but it’s still been a long.
In the games that followed, Darwin received a lot of flak. Yet, he doesn’t let it impact him, as Carragher claims.
His performance today demonstrated a player at the peak of his game. You would think Nunez has been scoring goals for fun recently based on the manner he brought the ball down and smashed it past Nick Pope.
That will undoubtedly be the case at some time during his Liverpool career. He’s starting to get momentum with a goal tonight and a crucial assist against Everton on Monday. Nunez is unlike any other person, and we wouldn’t have him any other way.
