Alexis Mac Allister, a transfer target for Liverpool, releases a price.
Alexis Mac Allister, a World Cup champion with Argentina for Brighton and Hove Albion, has been a long-time transfer target for Liverpool. Up until now, the financial details of the potential trade were unclear, but now it appears that the Reds may have to pay up to £60 million for the player.
According to Calciomercato via Liverpool.com, the player might cost potential suitors anywhere around £66 million. Given that the 24-year-old has a contract with the Seagulls through 2025 (Transfermarkt), any chance to entice him will undoubtedly need writing a sizable check. The paper also mentions Moises Caicedo’s appeal to Merseysiders.
It would be like to mention that water is wet to say that the Reds need a midfield makeover. From the viewpoint of an outsider, everything is as plain as it can be. In order for the Reds to be relevant and competitive at the top level of European football, it is about time the Liverpool transfer officials were reminded of their responsibilities and brought on some quality players.
In all likelihood, Liverpool is investing heavily in someone like Jude Bellingham. It is quite improbable that the Reds will pay £60 million for Mac Allister because his transfer costs would be in the neighborhood of £100 million.
Who to sign?
There is a perception that Liverpool might still do a combo transfer involving either the Englishman+Mac Allister or Jude+Caicedo, even if the Reds focus all of their efforts on bringing Jude on board.
The chances of the Reds signing one of these players are likely higher than that of the Argentine considering their performances in the league for a longer period of time and the fact that we already have players like Mason Mount and Ruben Neves on our books.
Now, the decision is whether the Reds should continue to be open to signing two of Brighton’s top midfielders or pursue Jude wholeheartedly, who has been on our radar for practically forever.
Without a solid midfield, Liverpool’s game as a whole suffers in terms of transition play. They require at least one energetic and talented midfielder who can control the game and link up with the forwards. Liverpool cannot afford to lag behind as their competitors bolster their teams. The midfield may be strengthened right away, giving the club a lift while also securing their future.
