If conditions at the team don’t improve soon after the start of the upcoming season, Simon Jordan suggested that Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, may quit.
On TalkSport, the pundit suggested that the Reds might fire Klopp if he is unable to turn around Liverpool’s fortunes in what is expected to be the German manager’s worst season in charge at Anfield. Jordan said: “I think if Klopp starts next season and gets to October with Liverpool in the same position, he’ll be gone.”
With ten Premier League games remaining and Liverpool in eighth place, there’s an increasing possibility that the Merseyside club won’t play any European football at all in 2019. This includes a position in the UEFA Champions League, which Klopp’s team has qualified for the last six seasons.
Yet, with pressure mounting on Klopp at Liverpool, there will be expectations placed on the former Borussia Dortmund manager to turn around the club’s fortunes the next season. A significant roster revamp is already underway.
Even though it’s possible that this will be Klopp’s final campaign at Liverpool, the German coach is also the best-equipped manager in Europe to get the Reds back to being the winning machine they were dubbed as in recent years. The Anfield manager is sure to welcome the challenge.
Klopp won’t leave Liverpool until he’s taken every precaution imaginable.
As Klopp’s departure from Liverpool would feel as strange as Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City or Mikel Arteta’s departure from Arsenal, it is likely that the manager of the Reds will only step down if he has done everything in his power to restore the team to their former glory.
There will come a moment when Klopp does leave Liverpool, but for many fans and analysts, that time is still a few years off. This is especially true considering that the German is under contract at Anfield through 2025, and that deal may easily be extended again.
