Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, is supposedly a player that Liverpool is interested in signing this summer. However, if Bruno Fernandes has his way, the Portugal international may end up at Manchester United instead.
Nunes, 24, moved from Sporting CP to Wolves last year in a club-record £38 million transfer. Although he had a sluggish beginning at Molineux, he has finally found his form, scoring a magnificent half-volley in a 1-0 victory over Chelsea earlier this month.
Nunes was frequently connected to Liverpool before he signed a five-year deal with Wolves, and it’s been said that they still have an interest in his talents. In January, Sky Sports reported that the Reds were still keeping an eye on Nunes, while Goal claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s team saw him as a potential replacement for Jude Bellingham.
Prior to the upcoming season, Liverpool is eager to improve its midfield options, but it has scaled back its interest in Bellingham. The England midfielder is valued at about £130 million by Dortmund, and Liverpool thinks it would be wiser to spread out their expenditure on multiple new players rather than concentrating it on just one.
In order to help Liverpool move past a disappointing season, Nunes might be the right match to assist overhaul the team’s engine room. Nunes should be playing with Fernandes at Old Trafford, however, since Fernandes has already informed his United managers.
Fernandes expressed his disappointment that United did not pursue a transfer for Nunes last year while expecting big things from him in the future. The two are international colleagues for Portugal.
In August, the 28-year-old said to the Portuguese news site Record: “I’ve already spoken to him (Nunes). I’ve already informed him that he ought to have traveled to United rather than Wolves. I’m thrilled for him.
He will have the opportunity to play in the top league in the world and will be surrounded by players of great calibers, such as Rben Sa and Joo Moutinho, who will impart valuable knowledge to him. They are both seasoned athletes.
Matheus is performing amazing feats. He is a modest, industrious young man who has tremendous room to improve, and I have no doubt that he will soar in the Premier League and display his abilities. Because of his qualities, Matheus was not created for the Premier League; rather, Matheus was created for the Premier League.
Throughout the entire previous summer transfer window, United searched for a new midfielder. They finally found one when they acquired Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazilian international is expected to win the club’s Player of the Year award after contributing significantly to Erik Ten Hag’s team this year.
But United might try to bring in a new midfield partner for Casemiro and remain linked to players like Declan Rice and Frenkie de Jong. They might also decide to compete with Liverpool, another Premier League team, in pursuit of Nunes.
When questioned about his future in March, Nunes responded that he wanted to play one final season at Sporting before calling it a career. He stated, “I will never forget it,” in an interview with Eleven Sports that was carried by Sport Witness. My original home in Portugal will always be sporting, and I hope to be able to go back there someday.
In contrast, Wolves manager Julien Lopetegui recently stated: “I don’t think about the future of the players. Being able to play today is crucial for the athletes’ future. We’ll find out later. Thinking about the upcoming game is the most crucial thing.
