The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder is wanted by Marc Skinner’s team, and talks to sign him are reportedly almost complete.
López, a two-time Spain cap who is currently out of contract with Atlético Madrid, is thought to be United’s top target as she is free to go on a free transfer.
As they prepare for their inaugural season among Europe’s top, the Red Devils, who have already qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, aim to bolster their roster with talent and quantity.
In addition to playing for clubs like Real Sociedad throughout her whole career in Spain, López has also shared the pitch with Ona Batlle, a former Manchester United player, most recently in 2020 when the two were members of a talented Levante team. It now seems possible that the pair will once more team up.
Following the FA Cup final loss last weekend, United manager Skinner discussed strengthening his team to catch up to his competitors, saying: “We are growing and we are investing, but the experience that Chelsea has, the investment they’ve put in over years and years and years is a factor in why they win.”
“I feel that we are closing gaps even though we don’t spend their type of budget, but I think we’re bridging gaps and I think we can show a sustainable way of doing it,” he continued. “But we need to keep getting the best players, and we need to keep being in the pool for the best players.”
Esmee Brugts, a teenager who would be available on a free transfer from PSV Eindhoven, is another player the club is rumoured to be interested in.
